WRD/ENG 609 is a required pedagogy theory class for all teaching assistants in Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies (WRD) and is essential to the teaching culture of WRD and preparing teacher scholars. In this course, graduate students will study our curriculum’s print, multimedia, oral communication, and composition theories and pedagogies and will be prepared to teach in our program for the duration of their advanced degree. By default, all graduate students teaching in WRD are required to take WRD/ENG 609. In extremely rare instances, the Director of Composition may consider prior graduate coursework and teaching at a peer institution as comparable experience to the theory and pedagogy of ENG 609 and teaching in WRD 110/111/112. However, this is the exception to the rule. Graduate students seeking a decision on exemptions must send relevant syllabi and teaching experience to the Director of Composition before the last day of summer TA orientation.
