I’ve developed a list of questions to help walk students through a visual analysis, focusing especially on the rhetorical appeals. After using these questions as the starting point for a class discussion where we analyze together one sample image, I have students get in their groups. I give each group one image to analyze, and one copy of the guiding questions as a handout. As a group, they work through the questions to develop an analysis of the image. After groups are finished working, I have each group present their findings to the class, while projecting their image on the board for their classmates to see.
