I use this assignment to begin discussing visual rhetoric.  For homework, I ask students to post one piece of visual rhetoric on the Blackboard discussion board.  It can be a photograph of something they encounter (such as a bumper sticker), an advertisement, a campaign ad, an image from a website, etc. 

For the next class meeting, I choose several of the students’ posts to examine in class.  We discuss the audience, context, and use of logos, ethos, and pathos.  I find that students post very interesting visuals from a range of perspectives.
