In preparation for the Group Speeches and Digital Project in WRD 111, I ask each student to bring in an “opposing argument” on their topic.  I assign this after groups have determined their stance on their overall debate, but it can also be used by groups to refine their position.  The “opposing argument” can be an article, speech, interview, etc.  In class, I have them write a response that addresses the opposing argument.  I then have them share their findings with their group in order to better address opposing arguments in their speeches and project.
